I first discovered Bennett Garner when I was searching online for help to improve social interactions & better conversation.About me - growing up, I didn't have the privilege of getting involved in extra-curricular activities to build those social skills that are so important to getting ahead in life. Actually, they are critical to accomplish almost everything you want in life...because you can't do everything on your own.
I read plenty other blogs, but I subscribed to Bennett's site because he just had a natural knack for breaking down exactly what to do to make the improvements. I had never seen anyone explain it so clearly. He turned the light bulbs on in my head. Using his thought processes I've been able to vastly improve my interpersonal skills.
I found out about this book through his email list & am honored to give the first review! I've enjoyed reading it and can't wait to put as many of these into action as I can. I personally like his direct style and more than that - I appreciate that he truly cares about helping people change their lives. That empathy comes through in his writing. I fully recommend this book!

Small actions, given time, can generate huge results. I think lots of us are guilty of the information-overload problem - we'll spend huge amounts of time and energy finding ways to improve our lives, but never end up taking any action. That's not what this book is about. Bennett's tweaks can be applied TODAY. Single actions don't change your life, habits do. And if you want simple-to-follow habits that you can start creating today, this is the book for you.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. If you need help getting started or feel like you need to be more productive this book is for you.
We've all seen the self-help articles that claim to fix our problems with "one little trick" backed by some study or whatnot. This book is like a compilation of those, but actually good. Reading this book was an incredible way to spend a few hours. Garner makes his tweaks very easy to understand and gives guidelines to apply them to our lives. The best part, in my mind, is that he cites his sources. I've already made some tweaks to my life and could not agree more with Garner that these small tricks can have a big impact on the day-to-day routine.
The tweaks in here are communicated in such an accessible and straightforward way that incorporating these positive changes doesn't seem overwhelming! I was definitely inspired to implement tweaks that Garner laid out in this and have seen their influence over time. I also really appreciate that there is research integrated into the writing that substantiates the effectiveness of the tweaks!
This is one of those books where you after know just after few pages in you'll going to consult it quite often, mostly because I didn't read it from cover to cover, as Bennett suggested. I found the Bennett on Quora giving amazing advice, just like in this book. I found his performance tweaks as well social tweaks works very well. Only thing is to don't do 10 tweaks at once, and this is the point I think this book is missing, worksheets or concrete plan of action, EvEN tho Bennett did touch on the subject to implement only a few tweaks. I already recommended it to few of my friends, so I recommend it to you, fellow human reading this comment.
I have read a lot of self-help books and productivity books and blogs over the years and I would confidently say this book has been the best among them.
I've often found that other books get bogged down too much with details or constantly attempting to hammer the same point home over and over and over again.
Bennetts books is a refreshing change of pace as he discusses simply and concisely, 50 tweaks you could make to make your life better. In the book, there is a link to get the 50 tweaks as a checklist which I know keep on my cork board above my computer as a daily reminder of what changes I am working on and where I need to keep progressing.
The fact that this book is free on is just incredible considering the value of the content inside it.

I was very lucky to come across the author on Quora. And, having enjoyed his posts, signed up for his emails. This lead me to being sent a early release of this book. Which, is not so much a book, as a very handy and helpful manual one may refer to whenever needed.
I was struck by the many things Bennett suggests which I have already implemented in my life. So it was enlightening for me to bring those conscious choices to the forefront of my mind. And further, to highlight where I need to work on more day to day changes.
Recently I was introduced to the concept of Kaizen. I'm still getting into it. Essentially it talks about the one minute rule. Whereas Bennett's book refers to a two minute rule. Either way, it goes like this. Even if you do one thing differently, each day, it will become a part of your life. That one minute will grow, and before you know it, it will be just another part of your life. As Bennett says about stretching before bed. Reading one chapter, before sleep or in the morning. So simple, yet effective. I would recommend this to anyone who feels stuck. For whatever reason. The power for change really does lie with us, and our choices.
